The Port of Bayonne : the figures

4 million metric tons : Since 1997 Port of Bayonne traffic has totalled over 4 million metric tons per year (4 172 733 en 2003)
    

800 : The Port of Bayonne and companies set up on the site employ some 800 people.

3000 : the estimated number of indirect jobs linked to the Port of Bayonne activities

1000 : the number of boats that, each year, use the Port of Bayonne

13 : this figure represents the number of professional providers of port services that operate in the Port :

Consignees : 5 companies provide this service
Stevedoring : 2 companies undertake this aspect of port work
Supply ships : 3 companies likely to undertake supply
Pilots –mooring –tug boats : these indispensable services are provided by 3 companies


9 the number of local companies set up at the Port or using port services

-         Raffinerie du Midi (hydrocarbons)

-         Bayonne Manutention (fertilizers)

-         Maïsica

-         Chaux et Ciments Saint-Hilaire

-         Silo de l’Adour (cattle-feed)

-         LBC (chemical products)

-         RENO (fertilizers and minerals)

-         ADA (Aciérie de l’Atlantique) – metal foundry

-         Total Fina ELF (sulphur)

In addition to the companies physically present on the Port site, several dozen clients that use the Port may be found in the south-west corner of France.

  10 kms : the length of the Port of Bayonne rail network which was constructed by the Port/CCI of Bayonne and the Basque Country and the sub-network (ie : the rail branches directly serving company sites) was set up by the companies concerned.

9 : the number of cranes, the most impressive of which may be found on the Saint-Bernard site and which lifts upto 80 metric tons.

5 :  specific to the Port of Bayonne, a team of 56 pilots works 7 days a week, 365 days a year in order to ensure the safe entry into and exit from the Port.  There is a total of 360 pilots in France.

1 : The number of tug boat available to vessels using the Port.
